Day 5 in Los Angeles

It's Field Trip Day!! Went to 2 agencies in a day, but only took pictures of the 2nd agency, which is a Rehabilitation Centre that specializes in brain injury, spinal cord injury.

I really love the concept of this Art programme. As part of the rehabilitative programme, patients who are interested in art making are recruited into this programme whereby professional artist will come to the ward to teach the patients some basic art making skills, and thereafter, patient can continue to brush up their art skills back in the community. All the art pieces are done by patients with some form of disability, while the sketches of the patients are also done by a patient.
Such display of art works can really boost the patient's dignity and self-confidence.

Staff from the Social Work department.

Their speech therapists really do have many gadgets to play with!
Part of the hospital. Gives me the feel of TTSH CDC.. But I love the clear skies and fresh air..

This is a part of a wellness garden. All the plants are grown by patients themselves..

There are like basil, strawberry... all sorts of fruits and vegetables! Even the wooden tray that holds that plant is made by patients.

This whole pillar is also made by patients from scratch! This patient even invented the pulley system.

My field visit group, I am the only Singapore, while the others are either physicians/administrator/ psychologist/ social worker from Thailand, Bangkok. The 2 ladies beside me are the staff of the Rehabilitation centre. The one on wheelchair is a Clinical Social Worker! Impressive isn't it?

~~ Ah... .... My favorite colour of the skies...

Mexican food for dinner..

Chicken burritos with black beans, white rice, salsa and cheese... Surprisingly yummy..

Day 4 in Los Angeles..

All the late nights of preparations and agony can finally come to a stop today - my oral presentation day. I have to prepare myself with another dose of breakfast from Starbucks.

I simply love the feeling of just nua-ing in Starbucks under that clear blue skies, in the cooling winds.

Some shots during my presentation.

 I love this shot~~

Salad for lunch. Not really my kind of style, but it taste really good. Maybe should adopt this style back in SG so that I can lose weight..

Yay! So it is time for real R&R!!

A nice wrap up for the day.. Pure Chocolate cake with a cup of moscato... **yums**

Day 3 in Los Angeles

Day 3 marked the official opening of the 7th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health. Spent almost the whole day in the campus.

Started the day with a coffee and chocolate croissant from Starbucks. I must say that this drink and bread combo cost as much as a drink in SG.

I love the campus. Such lovely environment with lots of space and greenery.

The best part of the opening ceremony is to drink moscato openly during "work" and enjoying the American style BBQ for dinner.

Another good thing about this conference is that we have made a new friend!   =)

Day 2 in Los Angeles

Decided quite spontaneously to head to the Universal Studios.. Though we woke up quite reluctantly, but it was a good day out. Weather was good with clear blue skies, sunshine and cool wind.. Travelling to Universal Studios was quite easy, took a bus a followed by the Metro, and they had a Universal Studios shuttle.

Generally, the stuff in Universal Studios LA is quite similar to the one in SG, except that they have the Nickelodeon themes like The Simpsons, Dora the Explorer, and more shops. But they do not have the Galatica roller coaster.

The Simpsons Ride is one of my favourites!

Somehow I find this "movie" poster very funny! I wonder if those kids in childcare have the same experience!

My Favourite Spongebob! Too bad they do have Patrick..  =(

The grooming rooms for The Three Blind Mice! hahaha!

Shall print this out in A4 size and pasted it infront of my work cubicle!

I love this photo!  =D

Oh, I love the Universal Studios Tour! It brings you around their filming set where you can really appreciate the props and sort of stuff that they do!

One of the wreckage sets that was featured in Ton Criuse's War of the Worlds. Super cool! They used a real Boey 380 for the set!

An aerial view from Universal Studios. Fantastic!

Dinner at Bubba Gump. Decent food and Great service!

And we really had a Tramtastic Day! =D

Day 1 in Los Angeles

Sort of survived the jet lag, if not, will not be typing my blogpost right now. Decided to start blogging again, because I dun want to flood my FB with short short status and photos. Tot it would be better to do it in blog.

Tried to be got a migraine after me wanting to be hardworking to rehearse my ppt.

Guessed I am not supposed to be hardworking. After that, had quite severe (in my own assessment) diarrhoea before touching down in LA. I wonder what food is my stomach sensitive to on the SQ flight. Dunked 2 bottles of po chai bills and went to the toilet for 3 times.. maybe its the air that caused the diarrhoea.

Weather in LA is fantastic!! Not to show off to my fellow friends and colleagues in Singapore, but see the clear blue skies! I wonder how long we have not seen such scene already..

Our room in the University of South California. A very big unit! Mine has 2 bedrooms, with kitchen and living room, and only about 54USD/ night! Much much better than my smallllll.... "apartment" in HK!

Venturing out of the campus area...

First meal in LA @ Denny's

Ordered their Original Grand Slam that comes with 2 pancakes (which i think is better and fluffier that the one i ate in BFF), 2 chicken sauage, 2 eggs and 2 bacon strips. My favourite breakfast combo. IF only I weren't having stomache upset, I'll slurp up that whole plate of food!

My first buy in LA - Hot choco drink and a mug to go with it. (the hostel does not come with any utensils)

Skies is still bright at 8pm..  =)   If you see hard enough, you can even spot the moon!
