"Lucky" Monday

Mondays have never been so "lucky" .. As the saying goes, "once it comes, it comes at a whole load", which indeed is very applicable to my current setting. Being the top trend analyst of the department, GCC has almost immediately analysed my trend -- having all the disciplines of referral. And Yes, I must say that it is very TRUE!! Just in one day, I got 2 referrals from my favourite ward 47, 1 from MICU, 2 from SICU (where one is a DO), 1 from A&E and the l potential HOTA! How cool is that??
In the end, I have only seen my A&E case, reviewed casenotes for my MICU and SICU, and that's it. And worst of all is that I got class tomorrow, which means i can only see the cases on Wednesday.

And tomorrow's seminar presentation. EEks!

EffeciveArts presents Family Approach Training Day II

Day 2 of the course is more sitmulations.. to be exact, as long as u are one of the participants, by hook or by crook, u'll definitely get ur chance in a sitmulation.

On a whole, i thought this course was rather useful, especially for those who has little experience in family conference which conveys grave prognosis and even death. The simulations allowed hands-on practice to deal with family members. Believe me, the actors/ actresses are REAL good...

It is a pity, however, that the time doesn't allow us to have a feel of working together with the TC. And i thought that should be an important component as well.

EffeciveArts presents Family Approach Training Day I

GCC and Zahara have been sort of recommending me to go for this course, because you get to learn from simulations aka role plays. (http://www.effectivearts.com)

So here I am, attending the course with Hilli (luckily) today. With some insider info from Muz, we sat at the front (partly coz the other seats were mostly taken), and I volunteered to go for the first role play.

I must say that the actors and actress were really acting very VERY VERY well!! They were all SO into their characters that the emotions were so real! By real, I mean that there were REAL tears, real anger etc.. I can even remember how the whole atmosphere sank when the Dr announced that the patient is brain dead. I can really feel THAT! Claps for the actors and actresses.

So, the first role play had quite minimal talkings from the MSW, which i am not too sure if that is good or bad.. Coz I am just doing what i usually do -- handling tissues, giving some pats on shoulders, eyeing around for emotional family members. But I am glad that I have made a mental note to speak to one family member individually.

Lets see what are the coaches up to tomorrow. **excited + anxious**

During our train ride to Science Centre yesterday, Jin asked if MRT in Singapore will eventually be standing cabins, and only a few designated cabins with seats that are reserved for those people who needed more such as the elderlys, pregnants and children. And in that event, would people still take the seats and not give them up. On our way back home, we purposely chose to sit on those seats that are not "reserved" hoping that we areless justified to give up seats as compared to those who were sitting at the "RESERVED" ones. Mean as it may sound, but when it is necessary, I am sure that we will be more than ready to give up ours despite having a long, non-sitting day in the West side.

And this brings me to today's encounter on the train when I was on my way home from Choa Chu Kang (sob. west again) after my project meeting. As usual, train was packed at Jurong East, and I decided to stand so that I can get home faster, rather then taking the train to Pioneer and back. I stood from Jurong East to City Hall and finally managed to secure a seat. But sad to say, my butt has even yet to warm the seat and there stood a father, mother and a kid, who is probably about 3 years old. Dad was holding the child, while mum was carrying the pram. I sat on my just-secured seat and waited to see if anyone would give up their seat to the Dad who is holding the child.
tick-tock, tick-tock. Woah, no one care about the Dad. Maybe they think that man should have no problem managing the kid. Nevermind, I decided to give up my seat, expecting that Dad may actually refuse it. But ok lah, Dad took up that seat. To my horrors, I realised that the whole row, except me, was actually MEN! And yes, MEN sitting at the Reserved seat not moving their butt.
Shame on you, guys.
But to be fair, I think that most of the Men looked like foreign labourers, except for the one seated beside me. BUt! Being foreigners do not mean that you can forget about these basic courtesy. Aren't the Reserved Seat notice in pictures as well? You don't need to know English to know who you should give up your seats to. And of course, men and women are equally responsible to give up seats if necessary, but don't you think Men should have the initiative first?

Poor Singa, I wonder if you would be upset to see this. Even having PCK and wife on the train is not enough.

The Westside story

I have always been a East-bound person, or rather, TAmpines-bound. My sincere gratitude to Mr Leonardo Da Vinci, the genius, who not only painted the famous and controversial paintings, invented great machines, has also made me spent a whole day at the West side.

Jin asked "how come many people like to wait till the last day then visit the Da Vinci exhibit?"
Ling "well... ... ask us.."

Indeed, we are also guilty for doing the same. I have been procrastinating about THE suitable day to visit Da Vinci - The Genius, ever since I watched the commerical ads in June.. Its only on the 2nd last day that I finally decided that it must die die be the day. To prove that we are really not that last minute, and we are REALLY interested in Da Vinci stuff, me and Jin agreed that we will meet at 9am, and be at Science Centre at 10am.

We made it somehow on time.. A nice relaxed breakfast at Mac, with the view of Science Centre. At 10am, Mac is already very packed!

Sorry, no photography in the exhibition. But from my expression, you can already tell that I enjoyed the exhibit very much!

One of the highlights in the exhibition. Indeed, I have learnt much about the painting of Mona Lisa. What we see (if we have the chance) at the Louvre Museum does not present the genuine colours of what Mona Lisa was then, due to the aged varnish. And thanks to modern technology and this exhibit, we can then appreciate the genuine colours, and also the 25 secerts of it.
Of course, besides Da Vinci - The Genius exhibition, we have also toured around the Science Centre. It is much much bigger than what we have remembered. Took some silly photos, and I shall wait for jin to upload. I was telling Jin that we should engage in such activity -- like having a relaxed breakfast, going to exhibit, science centre, interesting museums, once in a while. It does make me happier.

By the time we left Science Centre, it was already 5+!! Time just flew~~ and by the time we had dinner at BaliThai, shopped at Daiso & Popular, went finding for the shuttle bus pick-up point and realised that it doesn't go to Boon Lay anymore, took train to Pioneer just to have seats, and reached Tampines, it was nearly 11pm!

West side can only go once in a while. I still want to be Tampines-bound. Bound within my Tampuda Triangle*.

*tampuda triangle is a term by Ling which is the triangle of Tampines Mall, Century Square and Tampines One
