The Patissier

Cakes nowadays are getting more fanciful and more expensive.. U have famous names like Choc-a-bloc, Lana and The Patissier..

Lucky Ling went to Ann Siang Road today to pick up a Patissier cake that she won through a lucky draw.. Lost her way to Ann Siang Road, but thanks to the good guidance of JX, she found that out Ann Siang Road is only just next to the URA..
... ... Didn't managed to buy my S.H.E cds though. :(

Double Chocolate Praline
Rich praline sandwiched between layers of chocolate mousse with crunchy chocolaty crust.

The box of cake went empty in 4hrs time!!

THE Cake:
- Soft, with a crunchy base
- Topped with generous amount of cocoa powder (i like) and caster sugar
- Fruits, especially the strawberries, are very fresh and nice
- Praline, i supposed was made from hazelnuts, has a very rich hazelnut taste.

Overall:
Not too sweet. But could taste better with more bitter choc.
Ling is one who likes bitter choc.

And oh, credits to my best maid in house (only when you feed him with good food, to make him be in good mood), who enthusiastically volunteered to "收工" (as in clean up)

A Girls' night out

Girls' night out is only possible when Daf's has her dad's car available.. our last night ride was probably a few months ago?

Night ride can at times be quite a creepy one.. especially you have a bunch of steet-idoits on the car, who don't drive and don't know their way.

I confess. I am one of them. Obviously. (even out from tampines mall, i have difficulty directing the way. *shh* )

But well. Technology is so advanced nowadays that you can have a navigator that locate ur car's exact location and able to plan out the route to your destination. If u missed a turn, it'll plan another alternative route. Clever. But can be quite annoying at times, when u realised it is going the loong loong way... ... ...

Anyway, back to the girls' night out, we tried out best to venture out of our usual East Coast McCafe, but still went back to it in the end. At least, we went to Blk 85 for some not-so-usual food before heading to it. Well, it seemed to be the only place that is opened 24hrs, lively, and sells decent coffee. We used GPRS to find that Coffee Bean @ East Coast opens till 6am on eve of PH, but the barister claimed that they are closing soon when we reached at 1am. Boo boo.

See? this's the proof.

Creepy ride back again. We always have problems going to or leave Sing's place. Remembered the 鬼打墙 experience last time. ~ Scary. Even with the clever navigator, we still got a creepy ride. The rounds and rounds in the city area. The long and never-ending KPE (really. and it gets creepy seeing that u are the only car in the tunnel). The dunno-who desgined lanes at Sing's place, which are one-ways.
OH. Did I mentioned about the traffic jam at PIE at 5am in the morning??!! Apparently there was an RTA at PIE involving motorcycles and a car. Think there's one who didn't survive the accident. Good grief. Accident in the moring at PIE.

Nevertheless, night rides and chill out are always fun. =P

Family Dinner

Ling's mum started this monthly family dinner thingy last month.

How it works:
- Family/ relatives meet up once a month for dinner. Family will take turns on the treat.

Objectives:
- To catch up and also to bond (i supposed)
- To be able to try out as many restaurants as possible.

So far, 2 family dinners have been successfully held. Ling kicked off the first one by giving the treat.. A set dinner for 6pax at 店小二.. It's one of Ling's favourite restaurant. The set dinner was quite worthwhile.. With 7 dishes, it's about $180. They gave me a VIP card too!! *smiles*

2nd dinner was at 莆田@TM. Set dinner for 6 pax, also at about $180. But not much satisfaction as at 店小二. This was consider a treat from my mum, coz it's her birthday. But it was my sis who paid.
Family dinner rox!!

MSWs are busy beings too.

Lots of mal-understanding of MSW's work scope can be widely seen..

Some of the common perceived MSW's work:
- Give financial assistance
- Volunteer, specifically, 义工
- "Investigate" your family background thoroughly

Had a new input this morning -- MSWs are not supposed to be busy, they should attend to people as and when these people wants, and that means NOW.

Sorry dude, MSW are busy beings too.

Quoting from our BCP, our core BCFs are:
Counselling
Crisis Intervention
Care/ Discharge
Financial

Part of crisis intervention means that we attend/ support patients/family in crisis, which means urgent and immediate. Thus, we also see cases at A&E too. And if the cases are at A&E, it means urgent and immediate. And this means, we can't attend to you as and when you want, and that means NOT NOW.

A Date at Istana

Yeah!! Invited to this year's President Tea again!! Besides the usual Outstanding Social Worker Award, this year there's a new award -- Promising Social Worker Award...

I think I will definitely clinch the Irrelevant Social Worker Award (if there is any)..

And oh, I will bring my NRIC, and I definitely know how my IC looks like. Thanks.

Clients' self-determination

The unique job characteristic of social work in hospital setting is the multi-disciplianry team approach.. given that, it is the valuable input from different professionals to provide the best care as possible for patient..
Different professionals has it own ethics and values.. In social work, we very much value the client's self-determination. However, in the hospital setting, there is always this dilemma of how to balance clients' self-determination and also providing the adequate level of care...

My boss wrote in a book saying that we always tend to assume we know what's best for the patient..

I confess to that. Especially with elderly patients. We often ignore the elderly patient's wishes and turn to their other family members to make the "we know best" decisions.

Recently, I was a little upset by a case where fellow working colleagues instead of working together to best support patient's self-determined care plan, decided not to proceed with an assessment, coz it is not safe for patient to go home.
Yes. I do understand the reason behind it.
But what happens to client's self-determination? How much do we, as a team, take into consideration of that? Do we really psycho, force, coax him everyday, until the day he/she agree to go to a Home?

What we think or see as "best", would not be the "best" for patient... ...
